Healing is a Journey
So where do I begin? With the seedlings of my eating disorder and the unearthing of my depression? Or do I start in the present moment where there is hope, grace, clarity, love, gratitude and peace of mind. Well, Thich Nhat Hanh would say “all we have is the present moment” so I think I’ll just seize it.
Ironically (or not so in my universe) I lost my voice last Friday – my last day of a life-changing trip to MIRAVAL in Tucson, AZ. I had experienced MIRAVAL with a man I was dating back in 2001 but this time was different in myriad ways. I am different. Not only am I older but I am much more open, willing and free-spirited.
It has been a tough year. I was diagnosed with a litany of dis-eases, the most life-altering being Mercury poisoning, Leaky Gut Syndrome and the Epstein-Barr Virus. In addition to the diagnoses, I was covered in hives from head to toe which led practitioners to believe that I was gluten-intolerant and would need IV chelation to rid my body of Mercury not just run of the mill oral chelation. So, no Fish, no Gluten, no Chicken (due to my blood type – AB+) WTF I wanted to scream! And although I didn’t scream in my Osteopath’s office, I did have multiple tantrums in the presence of my beloved Mother, who was kind enough to relocate to Santa Monica for my 8 month medical odyssey.
But I digress (which I do ALOT)…my voice, well lack there of. This has happened before and I kinda like to look at it as the Universe’s way of telling me to slow down and LISTEN. Talking can be highly overrated, especially as a psychotherapist (I’ve been told). And the truth is that there good to be gleaned from both talking and listening. Learning when ‘less is more’ is an ongoing process for me.
So no voice…why not write? I chose a series of what I knew would be life-changing treatments and experiences at MIRAVAL. Beginning with the Hamman Ritual. Note to self: Not a great idea to have coffee with amaretto pre-treatment as you need to get up and shower with ‘silt’ half-way through. Other than that it was divine, simply divine and the perfect segue into the next few days of yoga, body conditioning and other treatments and rituals.
Welcome Wednesday…Chi Nei Tsang early in the day to get the stomach/metabolic process jump-started followed by an early evening Cranial Sacral Massage. Yes, Bliss Happenz!
Thirsty Thursday…this is the desert and I am exceptionally thirsty and have the beginnings of a sore throat so I decide to take it easy and let my Samadi Healing Ritual at 2:30pm take center stage today. Boy did it ever! The experience was otherworldly, intimate and infused with generational healing and multicultural rituals. I will never be the same (in a good way;)
Fever Friday…although I didn’t know I had a fever until returning to LA Friday night so I pushed through it with raspy voice intact. Yogaslackers experience followed by Morning Yoga, Pranayama class and then Body Conditioning with a Bosu, Bodybar and rubber bands. Crazeee good~! That’s all for now…have a great Wednesday!
